If you have been following our articles throughout the year you will be aware that 21,000 people are currently homeless in Queensland, 580,825 Queenslanders live below the poverty line, 10.9% of children live in poverty, 1 in 4 pensioners live in or close to poverty and 25% of households located in disadvantaged areas of Brisbane are food insecure.

So to be a positive influence and help put an end to this hidden hunger crisis, here is a recap of the many different ways we have contributed to Foodbank;

• Holding four Charity Morning Teas
• Running a Winter Appeal Food Drive
• Participating in the Festive Food Drive – Christmas Appeal
• Holding a Jeans for Beans Day
• Coordinating charity greeting card set up
• Purchasing seasonal charity cards

On top of our various monetary donations and efforts to raise awareness for Foodbank we have also donated over 235 food items throughout the year. Arguably our most important effort however, was coordinating the affiliation between Foodbank QLD and Charity Greeting Cards (a Sydney based company which arranges greeting cards promoting certain charities, with a percentage of every purchase being donated to a charity selected from their list). By setting this up and having Foodbank QLD added to this list we have helped, not only by generating further awareness throughout the country, but also by providing the opportunity for any number of companies and individuals to potentially donate to Foodbank through this greeting card company in years yet to come. This is something we are immensely proud of as a team as it feels as though we have made a difference, not only in 2015 but into the future as well.

We are pleased to announce that in 2015 Foodbank was able to surpass the number of meals provided in the previous year by over 1.6 million. Please click here if you would like to donate any funds, food and/ or services to Foodbank to go towards the 2016 tally.
