Further Support for Foodbank

Article By Adam Hurwood | | General News
One of Altitude’s core company values is to be a positive influence in our community and environment, and as many of you know, we regularly give our support to various charities throughout each year. This year however, we have decided to do things a little differently by focusing all of our efforts on one company in the hopes of having more of an impact. As I am sure you have guessed, carrying on from the team’s volunteering efforts in 2014, we will be providing further much needed support to Foodbank as our chosen charity for 2015.

Foodbank is a not-for-profit organization which was established in Australia in 1992, and today it is the largest hunger relief organization in the country. Here are some quick statistics to show you just how important Foodbank really is:

• Hunger affects over 2 million Australians with 580,825 Queenslanders alone living below the poverty line
• Foodbank provides nearly 60% of all food distributed by front line charities
• 65% of charities do not receive all that they require
• 516,000 Australians rely on food relief services each month (35% are children)
• Almost 60,000 Australians seeking food relief are unable to be assisted (40% are children)

These figures show that hunger really is a hidden crisis in Australia, which is in great need of our support.

This month at Altitude we will be showing extra support by participating in Foodbank’s Food Can Drive, as a part of their Winter Appeal. Our staff have committed to bringing in as many cans of food as they can throughout the month of March, which will then be donated to Foodbank so that they are able to provide warm meals and food care packages to those who are most in need. Stay tuned to see just how much we manage to pull together for this worthy cause.
